A Residency

posted by Kepler @ 7:41 PM

After an unfeasible amount of gigs throughout June and July, Kid and Conundrum have settled into an acceptable Groove. This Groove runs directly through our new monthly Residency at Native Tongue in Epsom. A suitably tiny venue with good sound.
The night is ours and so we can book bands we like, do things we want to do and generally enjoy ourselves, which is kind of the point of the whole band thing.

We hope you make Native Tongue on the 1st Sat of the month your regular Kid and Conundrum fix. If not, we do supply the nicorette patch of our downloads and CDs. However, best experienced live. We suggest you pop down.
Future dates are:
Sat 2nd August
Sat 6th October
Sat 1st November

And so on.......... Let's go!

Flee the woods! Flee the woods!

posted by Kepler @ 10:45 AM

Amazingly, although Kid and Conundrum refused to advertise their Oxshot woods gig to anyone except for other band members and Jo O'Brien, the sterling photographer, the turnout was in the 100,000s. Once you factor in the dogs, hikers and the midges, you get the largest ever turnout at a Kid and Conundrum concert! (although midges' ability to hear and appeciate music is admittedly still being researched).

Thanks to Jo, we managed to get some photos and videos done of us playing serenely in the woods. The photoshoot actually turned out to be much more fun than first anticipated. In fact, we're considering moving our practice room to Oxshot for the summer. To see videos, just type Kid and Conundrum into Youtube, where all good things tend to happen. There are amateur videos of Postman and Last Cigarette.

Hello Bristol!

posted by Chris @ 2:20 PM

Hi all - we're actually going to be embarking on something of a tour in June. It kicks off in Guildford at the end of May and then takes in Bristol (no less) before heading back to Kingston for a couple of gigs at the Grey Horse and the Fighting Cocks.

You'll see details to the left of this and flyers will be designed and winging their way out before too long I'm sure. Looking forward to seeing some of you there.

Also, we will be featuring in the hallowed column inches of the Epsom and Ewell Guardian next week. The article should actually be pretty funny. That was the plan anyway.

Right - onward!

Cracking!

posted by Chris @ 4:12 PM

The gig we just did at the Bull and Gate was brilliant! The sound was good (which helped) and we played well and all that kind of thing.

I always dread gigs before the event, but once we are on stage - there is nothing like it. It is really addictive, so I'm looking forward to the next one in a couple of weeks. We'll be playing some more of the old favourites (Perfect Photograph - with added harmonies!) as well as the new ones (definitely Postman - that rocked at the Bull and Gate)

We've also got some new catering and decoration ideas for the venue, and we'll be running the night, so it should be enormous fun. Come and see the Kid and Conundrum live experience.

Back on the horse - 4 months later

posted by Chris @ 9:03 AM

It's been far too long. How is everyone?

You'll be pleased to hear that Kid & Conundrum are back on the road again (well, the road to and from Camden anyway) with a gig at the Bull and Gate at the end of February (not right at the end though, for it's a leap year! Crazy!)

We'll probably be showcasing a couple of new tunes as well. There's one called either 'Waves' or 'Took A Walk Outside' which is a pop-rock clash of titanic proportions swathed in electric guitar, acoustic distortion and remarkable MicroKorg playing (me). It also clocks in at less that four minutes - a rare and wonderful thing in the K&C canon. It's practically punk.

There's also a skipping lilting track called 'The Postman' (probably) where a quirky riff builds to an emotional plea to suburbia (I am making this up - I have no idea what it's about). Make up your own mind on the 28th.

I'm sorry Maurie, I'm not a gymnast

posted by Chris @ 9:39 AM

Good Lord! It's been nearly two months since the last post here. I guess that's what happens when you take a summer off as a band as your lead singer is swanning off round Europe. Another thing that happens when you take a summer off as a band is you get a bit rusty - as evidenced in last night's battle of the bands.

Now let me make this clear - we were by no means 'bad' - we were merely not the well-oiled good-times machine that you have come to know and love. But then, no matter how well we played, I don't think there's any way we would have won the battle anyway - given the fact that we were up against a ludicriously slick outfit called 'Poppy and the Seeds'. You see, I had this idea in my mind that a battle of the bands would be a jolly affair with lots of slightly shambolic local bands like us trying their hands and having a good old giggle together . But Poppy and the Seeds were a professional outfit with their eyes on the prize - which they got, unsurprisingly.

Also, the judges really didn't like our charmingly ramshakle epics. More fool them.

Still - we will put these things behind us, and look towards the bright future that naturally awaits people full of pluck and vigour such as Kid and Conundrum. We now have an attractive grass green EP to put into people's sweaty hands, so we will send these out and spread the word to anyone with space in their ears and their hearts.
